The Wedding:
Thoughts I CANNOT get enough of this dreamy elopement! Olivia and Abdoulaye wanted an intimate and magical ceremony in the heart of Hartwick Pines State Park, a grove of gorgeously preserved old-growth pine trees in Northern Michigan. The venue selection presented the couple with wedding decor limitations, namely a kibosh on the bride's desire to have a wedding arch. The park wanted to ensure that none of the surrounding area would be disturbed by a free-standing arch, so I had to think outside the box. After some brainstorming, I suggested that we create a HANDHELD wedding arch that matched the bride's bouquet as a compromise. The bride LOVED the idea! Her parents took part of the intimate ceremony and held the arch for the young lovers. At the bride's request, I made the custom handheld wedding arch with a matching cascading bouquet and boutonniere. The arch's base was made with six, thin branches I harvested from my yard that had a natural, reddish hue. The branches were braided and bound together with twine. Deep red and white hydrangeas were adorned with crimson roses, baby's breath, and ferns. They were hand woven into the top of the archway and spilled forth from the bride's bouquet like a waterfall. The base of the arch and the stems of the bouquet and boutonniere were wrapped in a burgundy, satin ribbon. The groom requested a more masculine boutonniere, so we swapped the flowers out for a red and green trio of succulents. Since we were in the forest, we needed somewhere to place the bride's homemade Smudge Stick. I brought a dainty, rustic table dressed in lace and a pearlescent shell bowl to house the delicate bundle of roses and sage. The bride brought an adorable picnic basket with custom champagne glasses for the post ceremony toast. The whole ceremony felt otherworldly and in-tune with the surrounding pines. This elopement steeped in old world customs will definitely always be one of the most memorable ceremonies I have had the pleasure to help with.
